David Mansfield Atton
has been in the estate agency business for the best part
of three decades.
Originally on the managerial
staff of a local successful chain of independent estate
agents this chain was subsequently taken over by a leading
building society in the late 1980s, in common with many
such institutions to keep a share of the financial services
market. Within
this new organisation David became District Director,
covering five regional offices, and later on had responsibilities
for Commercial sales in the whole of the North Yorkshire
area.
In August 1992 David decided
to return to independent status and, along with his wife
Elaine, set up DMA Estate Agents in Filey. In answer
to the media question at the time: 'why
open up in the midst of a recession' David
stated: "If we can succeed now then
we have the qualities to continue to succeed".
They took over a small
failing estate agency in Filey opening up with just eight
properties. For several
years David had looked for the opportunity to establish
his own business in Filey. At the time he said "Having
worked for a national organisation I am fully convinced
that what people are looking for is personal, friendly
service that I feel can best be achieved from the local,
independent estate agent who is not bogged down with red
tape and bureaucracy. This is just exactly what we
aim to provide. Open seven days a week, we are ready
and willing to give the quality and satisfaction that the
customer has a right to expect." The
office was completely re-furbished in the new DMA colours
of red and grey and investments made in computerised systems
and modern market leading wall and window displays.
Both David and Elaine
were well known in the local area. David
is a Filonian having been brought up in Filey and lived
in the area all his life. Elaine was Head of the
Adult Education Centre based at Filey Secondary School,

in what subsequently proved to be an ongoing declining
market, DMA Estate Agents is now a leading estate agency
in the area carrying a large stock of property of all types
and prices. This
is due solely to total commitment and hard work. We
have a small team of friendly staff who work hard to promote
a very high standard of professionalism offering a quality
service at all stages of both buying and selling property,
providing the calibre of service that is essential for
success. We take great pride in our many satisfied

addition we have a very efficient computerised mailing
list.
